Into the wilderness, out of the ordinary

Cederberg Ridge is a luxurious wilderness lodge offering delicious food, warm hospitality, and adventure. Enjoy panoramic views over the natural rugged beauty of the Cederberg Mountains and the range of excursions and activities we offer.

A stylish ‘away-from-it-all’ experience, yet it’s only a 2½ hour scenic drive from Cape Town or the Winelands.

Cederberg Ridge has the authentic ambience of a modern African Farmhouse. Inviting interiors with vaulted ceilings, wooden beams and natural textures give a light and airy feel. Large French windows open to a generous covered stoep and dining deck overlooking the garden and mountains beyond.

With 11 spacious rooms and suites, restaurant with a view, large swimming pool and indigenous gardens flowing into the veld, this luxury retreat offers space and style in the midst of wilderness.

The lodge overlooks the natural fynbos area of our 3,000h farm with the Cederberg Wilderness Reserve beyond. There’s a range of walking and mountain bike trails right from the lodge.

EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES AT CEDERBERG RIDGE

We make it easy for you to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Cederberg, with our activities and experiences – see below. Here you can experience the unique culture of the Cederberg – from its ancient San rock art to its Settler history; and from its food to its flora.

Our memorable and life-enriching activities include walking, mountain biking, star-gazing, boat cruises on the Clanwilliam dam, full day tours into the Cederberg, rock art excursions, rooibos or citrus farm tours and sundowners.

Programme of Activities: We offer a three day seasonal programme of activities covering a range of the activities and excursions mentioned below. It depends on the upcoming weather so it’s variable. But it includes a daily choice of more active and more leisurely excursions. (Note: If you will want to do excursions, it is more cost-effective to book on the Full Board & Activity basis.)

EXPERIENCES

Things to see & do
We introduce you to the natural beauty and hidden gems of the Cederberg through a range of experiences to suit both the active and the more leisurely.

Choose from guided walks, mountain biking, rock art excursions, rooibos farm tours and sunset boat cruises. We also offer guided excursions into the Cederberg or to the West Coast.

Experience
The High Cederberg
Cederberg Ridge offers a semi-full day excursion into the “High Cederberg” every three days, which is highly recommended. Enjoy the sights of the High Cederberg on a guided excursion to Stadsaal caves, rock art and wine-tasting at Cederberg Cellars.

Sunset Boat Cruises
The Clanwilliam dam provides a stunning setting for our sunset boat cruises. These come into their own in the hot summer months from November to February. With the mountain as your backdrop, soak up the fiery sky at dusk on our 1½ hour sundowner cruise. We offer this typically every other evening in the summer months.

We generally offer this tour from generally October to March when the water is nice for swimming off the back of the boat. But timing may be less frequent.

West Coast Excursion
Cederberg Ridge offers a semi-full day excursion into the West Coast for a delicious seafood lunch on the beach at Muisbosskerm. Generally we offer this excursion in the summer months when it’s enjoyable to escape the heat and head to the cooling sea breezes.

En route we unique Bird Island with its vast array of gannets and cormorants.

Please note: Our guided excursions follow a set programme so we cannot guarantee any particular excursion during your stay. This excursion is typically on a Sunday.

MUISBOSSKERM

Seafood buffet
Muisbosskerm is an open air beach restaurant on the West Coast near Lamberts Bay.

It is probably the best example of alfresco west coast hospitality. There’s an array of seafood on offer, as well as delicious home-made bread, paella and crayfish (at an extra cost). Muisbosskerm is known for its seafood but if that’s not your favourite, don’t worry! When your tummy is full from the seafood buffet, out comes a selection of meat dishes including a traditional South African potjie such as a waterblommetjie bredie. (A bredie is a stew cooked in an iron pot over an open fire).

It’s a rustic experience – you eat with a mussel shell as your fork. But a truly authentic one! All the time, you enjoy superb views over the beach and crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean. On a sunny day, there is little to beat this!
